Release Notes : Version 1.2

New features overview

99translations.com version 1.2 software has been deployed January 15th, 2009 adds many new features and improvements:

  • AJAX editor
  • Accounting
  • Improved navigation
  • Translation contexts
  • Colored labels – workflow
  • Show changes

AJAX editor

New version of translation editor was written from scratch using a lot of AJAX element using jQuery. The editor allows to use a lot more room on the screen and can be enhanced with many useful features. The editor allows translators to use few key bindings for better productivity to control the editor using keyboard only.

Accounting

99translations.com allows to track translation expenses for every translator setting up his personal price per word. The system counts how many words and keys has been translated and allows to see the total in the given time frame.

Improved navigation

We’ve developed Quick Links to allow translators to create shortcuts to the files they work on. The system suggests to create a Quick Link to the file when you visit it first time. It also allows project moderators to create quick links for invited users, which allows new users to get used to the system easier.

Translation contexts

We’ve noticed enormous amount of questions translators asked their moderators about where this or that key was used, sometime it is impossible to recognize what part of speech particular word is (ex. “admin” – noun or verb). Translation context feature had been created to allow teams to setup a workflow to resolve translation context problems. We suggested translators to use colored label (particularly blue label) to mark questionable strings so when moderators ones in a while review “blue”-list and attach something to explain the meaning of the key. You can use URL, image or simple text comment to explain the context.

Colored labels – workflow

One of the features of the new version is colored labels. Would you like some of your translations to be done first or to make it easier for you to find? You can do it now. Just label all of them in one color. The labels can be used for supervisors to mark approved or rejected translations in the list.

Here we marked some translations with red.

Show changes

Showing changes in the master translations is great addition to the system. It may save you up to 80% of the translation time fixing updated translations. Translators can forget frustration of manual word-by-word comparison of two text paragraphs – system just shows them the changes with colored markup.
